Built in 1727, Ghan House is a fully restored, family-run Georgian house and restaurant, now in its 22nd year of continuous business. It is one of the oldest private houses of its type in Ireland, with 3 acres of walled mature gardens.
It is located a tree-length from Medieval Carlingford, with its narrow streets, a town gate, mint, castles, priory & ancient walls and shops, cafés, pubs and more restaurants. Ghan House is just one hour from both Dublin and Belfast.
The 2 AA Rosette-awarded restaurant utilises the herb & vegetable gardens on-site and celebrates its position on Carlingford Lough with the local seafood and Mourne mountain lamb and beef.
Whether you stay in the old house or one of the garden bedrooms, views of Carlingford Lough, the Mourne mountains or Slieve Foy come as standard.
2 of Ireland’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites are both easily accessible from Ghan House. The 5,000-year-old ancient burial site of Newgrange is a 45-minute drive and the Giant’s Causeway is just a 135-minute drive. Monasterboice round tower & ancient Celtic crosses, the Hill of Tara (the seat of the High Kings of Ireland). and Trim Castle (the largest Norman castle in Ireland), are all 45 to 80 minutes drive. The Carlingford Lough Ferry links across the beautiful Carlingford Lough to the mesmeric Mountains of Mourne.
